Smolanka Volodymyr Ivanovych 

Doctor of Medical Sciences, professor

Was born in Uzhhorod on the 2^nd of April 1961, finished Uzhhorod secondary school №1 named after Taras Shevchenko with a gold medal.

In 1977 he entered Medical faculty of Uzhhorod State University and graduated in 1983 with “summa cum laude” (was awarded Latin honours) and was qualified as a doctor.

Work history (experience):

1983-1985 – resident in Kyiv research Institute of Neurosurgery

1985-1986 – resident of neurosurgical department in Berehovo regional hospital

1986-1989 – post-graduate student of Kyiv Institute of Neurosurgery of the specialty “Neurosurgery”

1989-1994 –   assistant lecturer of the Department of Neurology, Psychiatry and Hygiene of Uzhhorod State University

1994-2000 --- assistant professor of the Department of Neurology, Psychiatry and Hygiene of Uzhhorod State University

From 2001 till now - head of the Department of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry of Uzhhorod National University.

From 2006 till March 2014 - Director of the Regional Centre of Neurology and Neurosurgery (part-time).

From 4 March 2014 till now - acting Rector of the State Higher Educational Institution “Uzhhorod National University”

Candidate of Medical sciences since 1990, Doctor of Medicine since 2002. The degree of Associate professor was conferred in 1998, the degree of professor was conferred in 2005.

Volodymyr Ivanovych is the author of 139 scientific and education works including those published in the journals “Stroke”, “Neurology”, “European Journal of Neurology”. He has published 12 manuals for doctors and students, received 2 patents of Ukraine and one inventor’s certificate.

Smolanka V. I. supervised one doctor and two candidates of Medical sciences. He is a member of the Specialized Academic Council in neurosurgery in “Neurosurgery Institute” of State University after Romodanov A.P. of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

Volodymyr Ivanovych is the President of the Ukrainian Association of neurosurgeons, vice-president of All-Ukrainian non-governmental organization “Ukrainian Association for struggling strokes”.

Having a good command of several foreign languages, he is a permanent lecturer of European Neurologists Association and a member of Training Committee at European Association of Neurosurgeons societies.

Smolanka V. I. is a deputy editor-in-chief of the research-practical journal “Cerebrum Vessel Diseases”, a member of the editorial staff of the journals “International Journal of Stroke” and “Ukrainian Neurosurgical Journal”.

From 2006 till 2010 - deputy of the 5^th session of the Transcarpathian regional council, from 2010 till now – deputy of the 6^th session, head of the Health care (service) committee of the Transcarpathian regional council.

Volodymyr Ivanovych is awarded the Third class order of Merit and other awards of the Verhovna Rada of Ukraine and certificate of Merit of the Ministry of Public Health of Ukraine.

He is the first National Medical prize winner in the category “The best medical practitioner”.

Volodymyr Ivanovych is married and has four sons.
