Laboratory of ethnology, folklore studies and studies of local lore named after Mykhailo Tyvodar opened at UzhNU

On Thursday, April 25, 2019, the Department of History and International Relations of UzhNU hosted the opening ceremony of the laboratory of ethnology, folklore studies and studies of local loren amed after the famous Ukrainian ethnographer and historian Mykhailo Tyvodar. Lecturers, students, and Mykhailo Tyvodar’s family members were present at the laboratory opening ceremony. Mykhailo Tyvodar’s wife, Olena Tyvodar, vice-rector of UzhNU Myroslava Lendel, acting head of the Department of Archeology, Ethnology and Cultural Studies Nadia Keretsman, Professor Volodymyr Zadorozhnyi, director of the Information and Publishing Center Vasyl Ilnytskyi, Associate Professor Vasyl Kotsan, Associate Professor Pavlo Lenyo and others told about Mykhailo Tyvodar’s personality, life, civic and scientific activity.

The formation of the laboratory began in 2015. Mykhailo Tyvodar prepared a large collection for it, including the materials of the university ethnographic expeditions, since 1960-ies. According to the moderator of the meeting, similar laboratories are the centers for historical and local lore studies, great places for lectures and thematic excursions. The archives of such laboratories provide the opportunity to conduct scientific and methodological seminars, round tables, and conferences. It is important to note that the Transcarpathian school of ethnology has become successful primarily due to Professor Mykhailo Tyvodar, who collected a large number of artifacts, and trained a lot of ethnologists.
