Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology

The department was founded in 1950 on the basis of theUzhhorod maternity home as part of the Medical Faculty of the Uzhhorod State University. Since 2002, the Department is a subdivision of the Medical Faculty of the State Higher Educational Institution "Uzhgorod National University."

The corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences, professor Baksheyev M.S.(1950-1959) was the organizer and the first head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Since 1959 till 1964 the Department was headed by professor Rembez I.M.

Since 1964 till 2000 the disciple of Bakshayev M.S. professor Ganych M.M. headed of the department a long time.

Since 2000 till present, the department is headed by professor Malyar V.A..

The Clinical Base and the Place of Conducting Classes:

• The Uzhgorod manicipal maternity home (Griboyedov Street, 20 b);

• The A. Nowak Transcarpathian Regional Clinical Hospital, gynecological department (Peremohy Street, 24).

The head of the Department and coordinator of ECTS – MalyarVitaly Vasylovych, the candidate of medicine, associate professor.

Responsible for scientific work - Korchynska Oksana Oleksandrivna, the candidate of medicine, Professor.

Responsible for clinical work – Hascha Ivan Ivanovych, the candidate of medicine, associate professor.

The head of student scientific club – MalyarVolodymyr Vasylovych, the candidate of medicine.

Educational and methodical work

At the department study the 4th and 6th year students of the Medical Faculty, the 4th year students of the Stomatological Faculty and the Hospital Nursery. The studing of the students an the department built on the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) of organization educational process, based on the estimation of all kinds of student’s work needed to achieve the aims specified in the curriculum developed in accordance with Educational Qualification Characteristics (EQC) and Educational Professional Program (EPP), and defined final goals of the study Obstetrics and Gynecology, as an independent discipline.

The department developed ECTS- information package for information on the educational process, which is a reference book for students, teaching staff and potential partners.

At the department methodological support is a unified according to the modules, which there are four:

• Module 1 "Physiological course of pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period" (4th year);

• Module 2 "Pathological course of pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period" (5 year);

• Module 3 "The diseases of the female reproductive system. Family Planning "(5th year);

• Module 4 "Obstetrics and Gynecology" (6 year)

Educational process is conducted in accordance with what level of achievement stipulated in the modules studied according to the aims: level of knowledge, level of skill or ability.

In addition, for the acquisition practices and the development of clinical thinking on educational bases at Uzhhorod Municipal Perinatal Center and Gynecological Department of the Nowak A. Transcarpathian Regional Clinical Hospital the students get acquainted with the modern methods of diagnosis and treatment, examined the patients, determine a plan of therapeutic and preventive measures under the guidance of a lecturer andcontrolled by the attending physician.

In writing the educational history of childbirth or gynecological patient students use protocols MOH of Ukraine concerning to conduct physiological childbirth and treatment of gynecological patients, who reflect carefully approach the educational process to clinical conditions.

The preparation for license examination "The Step 2" performed by everyday solving situational tasks from data bank "The Step 2" as in the classroom and at independent preparation of the student.

An important method of studing, providing creative level, which has long used the department- is attracting students to science work, the compatible publications with the department staff, student performances on various forums, student participation in competitions.
